Christmas is a-comin'

I was at Target the other day to find my daughter a sleeping bag for her first Brownie camp-out. I discovered that, among the numerous Halloween stuff, were the beginnings of Christmas decorations, cards, etc.. In the little chorale I am in at church, we have begun the process of preparing for our Christmas cantata. It is full of some pretty good stuff. I love Christmas music, but I must say that I have never been a huge fan of the contemporary Christian music. It may stem back to a criticism I received in my youth from one of the members of my youth group. It was during that heady time when the Monkees were making a comeback on MTV. I loved them. My brother and I watched them quite often. The girl at church told me that the Monkees worshipped the devil and that I needed to listen to Petra instead. Now, I have my few songs that I will always love....Watch the Lamb, We are the Reason, anything by Glad. But I have found the ultimate Christmas song in this church cantata. As much as it pains me, it was co-written by Amy Grant and some guy. I go back and forth with my feelings on her. But this song will reduce you to a puddle of goo. Breath of Heaven is written from Mother Mary's perspective. I can't even talk about it, or type about it. It tears me up. Go to YouTube and type in Breath of Heaven. Try to get an Amy Grant version. Get out the Puffs! Christmas is comin'!
